Nu-Nu-Nu-Northwestern!

ay 22, 2004 marks the inception of Kappa Phi Lambda's NU-est chapter at Northwestern University. The acquisition of chapter status is no small feat and one of great honor. Northwestern University's concerted efforts in not only preaching but mobilizing the mission of Kappa Phi Lambda is evident as they have dedicated over 30 hours of community service, held 4 campus-wide cultural workshops, sponsored more than 3 fundraising events, and still managed the time and money to attend numerous nationally sponsored activities. Established less than 2 years ago by the 5 charters, a strong foundation has been built at Northwestern University now 19 sisters strong, as well as providing pivotal support for other colonies of Kappa Phi Lambda located in the Midwest.

Founded on November 23, 2002, Northwestern University was the first colony of Kappa Phi Lambda situated far from the main headquarters of Kappa Phi Lambda located in New York. The challenges and obstacles that lied before them were unprecedented and difficult. Distance in itself was a stumbling block for the former colony, but finding the means of representation and recognition on campus with only five charters was the major hurdle they had to conquer.

However, these ladies were able to overcome all hindrances and excitedly welcomed their baby alpha class to eternal sisterhood the following spring. With 15 sisters crossed in less than a year, the colony tripled in size as recognition on campus was soon to follow. This past spring has also proven to be an incredible quarter for our Nu chapter. They roadtripped over 25 hours to support other colonies and chapters while simultaneously pledging in their beta class. Northwestern University's first and only Asian interest cultural sorority has flourished internally while solidifying its role on campus. Successfully collaborating with other Greek organizations, mainstream and cultural, which include Alpha Phi Alpha, Gamma Phi Beta, Kappa Delta, Lambda Theta Alpha, and Lambda Phi Epsilon, Kappa Phi Lambda's Nu chapter has garnered the reputable standing as a passionate and dynamic organization of women.

Northwestern sisters have continuously traveled to New York City, attending every national meeting since their establishment despite conflicts in their academic calendar. In less than two years, the sisters of Northwestern University have accomplished all they have ambitiously set their hearts on. Throughout all the flights taken in the past years to New York, the entire colony flew together for the first time this past weekend. It proved to be different as something intense filled the air (and i'm not talking about the turbulence). This time around, the girls flew together not as a colony but as Kappa Phi Lambda's newest chapter- louder and prouder than ever before
