n a sunny afternoon
in late October, Kappa Phi Lambda Sorority Inc. marked
the beginning of the first annual Midwest Sisterhood Social, MiSS, in the
windy city of Chicago. The
Nu Chapter at Northwestern University hosted a weekend filled with
a variety of activites aimed to bond new and old sisters together. MiSS
had been an idea long discussed amongst the midwest colonies, wishing
to have a weekend long event where schools in the region could simply
get together and have fun. Due to the phenomenal growth of the
sorority, sisters in the midwest felt the need for an event like
MiSS. Northwestern,
being the first addition to the Kappa Phi Lambda family to branch out
of the east coast, was extremely excited at the growth of our sorority
in the midwest and was honored to be the first school to host the
event.
With the support of Central Council sisters and big sisters in
attendance, in addition to midwest sisters, the event was a great
success. The weekend was kicked off with a dinner party in
downtown Chicago at the restaraunt Koi A welcome speech was
made, goody-bags were handed out, and even an ice breaker game
was played and prizes rewarded. After dinner sisters had
the option of relaxing and watching a movie, going to sing
karaoke, or hanging out in Northwestern's college town, Evanston. Saturday
morning began with breakfast at the multicultural center, coffee
bagels and danishes were served. Later on, a trip was
made to downtown Chicago where sisters did eye shopping, site
seeing, and enoyed some of Chicago's most famous foods. At
night, Nu Chapter hosted a very successful Halloween costume
party where sisters shook their cat tails, tipped their cowboy
hats, and swung their police clubs. Nu Chapter, University
of Michigan Colony, Ohio State University Colony, and Northern
Illinois University Colony are extremely excited to continue
the tradition.
