Kappa Phi Lambda colonizes Columbia University

s the fifth oldest institution of higher learning in the United States, Columbia University, originally Kings College after King George II, was founded in 1754; the name it now retains was bestowed upon it as a tribute to patriotism after the Revolutionary War. Located in Morningside Heights, Columbia University now consists of not only three undergraduate schools, including Barnard College, Columbia College, and the Fu Foundation School of Engineering and Applied Science, but also one school of continuing education and thirteen graduate and professional schools. Columbia University houses more than 23,000 students and 4,000 faculty members from over 150 countries. Located in the prime location of New York City, it celebrates diversity and the advancement of learning. Embracing more minority students than any of the Ivy League Schools annually, Columbia University is at once the epitome of a close-knit community and of a major research institution. Recently having celebrated 250 years as a leader in education, Columbia is presently doubly intent on ensuring that the pursuit of knowledge amongst its students and its faculty never diminishes.

Columbia University Charters: Even with 250 years of existence behind it, Columbia University could not boast any Asian American interest sorority whatsoever until a group of young women came together and decided that it was necessary that those in search of sisterhood have an organization to turn to on campus; an organization that is not purely social, but focuses more intently on aiding the community and expanding awareness about Asian American issues. This steadfast group of ten women, including Alice Wong, Amy Bai, Angie Cheng, Cindy Pang, De Anna Lau, Lilia Tse, Lily Lew, Michelle Huang, Nhu Tran, and Yan Ho, look forward to bringing the Asian American community at Columbia University together, and aim to present a solid and unified whole to the campus at large.
